Though we continue to be faced with challenges, I am confident that we have taken many of the right steps toward turning our state around and making Michigan a place where our children and grandchildren want to live, work, and raise their families.
Our work is not done, however, as there are a number of serious issues still facing our state. We need to invest in and improve our educational system at all levels so that every child in Michigan receives a quality education that prepares them for jobs of the 21st century. Michigan must be a magnet for businesses that will provide good-paying jobs for our residents, and we need to make healthcare affordable and accessible to all of our citizens. Finally, we must protect Michigan's environment and resources-- particularly our water-- for generations to come.
Together, we can keep building a better Michigan!
