Jobs and the Economy
Joan Bauer’s top priority has been creating and protecting jobs and supporting small businesses
·        Joan has fought to retain jobs by supporting numerous economic development plans that will position our community and state to attract new jobs in alternative energy and other emerging industries.
·        As the Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education, Joan is fighting to increase funding for our colleges and universities to transform, strengthen, and diversify the state's economy.
Leading By Example
·        When state workers were required to take six furlough  days, Joan Bauer voluntarily returned six days of pay to the state
·        Joan also voted to cut legislators' pay – including her own – by 10 percent and toend legislators’ taxpayer-funded lifetime health care
·        Joan takes her job as a state legislator very seriously. That’s why Joan has never missed a day of session
Building Consensus
Joan Bauer has worked with Republicans and Democrats to get real results for our community.
·        Joan played a critical leadership role in the passage of Michigan’s smoke free air law, which protects thousands of Michigan workers from the harmful effects of secondhand smoke.
·        Joan has provided effective and responsive leadership as the Chair of the Capitol Caucus, a group of Mid-Michigan lawmakers who work to address legislative and economic development issues affecting the region.
Progressive Leadership
Joan Bauer has provided a progressive voice in the Michigan Legislature.
Joan has:
·        Introduced legislation addressing fair and equal pay between men and women
·        Co-sponsored “Matt’s Law”, which requires schools to adopt policies to ban bullying and harassment ·       
·        Worked for the passage of the Great Lakes Compact, to protect Michigan’s Great Lakes
Commitment to Our Community
Joan Bauer continues to stay connected to the people who sent her to the Michigan Legislature
Joan has:
·        Assisted thousands of residents with issues pertaining to housing, mortgages, education, unemployment, consumer protection, insurance, health care access,
·        Held monthly “Breakfast with Bauer” meetings and community town halls
·        Attending hundreds of neighborhood meetings, community events, and activities
